BSP Impersonation Scam Awareness

Scam Alert: Fraudulent Calls Impersonating BSP

The Cook Islands Financial Intelligence Unit (CIFIU) is aware of scammers contacting BSP customers through WhatsApp and Google Meet, pretending to be BSP representatives. Scammers may potentially use other calling apps, although this has not been confirmed. It has also been reported that callers appear to be using Gmail accounts, and some calls appear to originate from Pakistan or India. Fraudulent accounts may also display the BSP logo as their profile picture to appear legitimate. A familiar logo, account name or displayed caller location does not confirm that the caller represents BSP.

BSP does not use WhatsApp or calling apps to contact customers. Treat any call or message claiming to be from BSP through these platforms as suspicious.

If you receive a suspicious call or message:

  • Do not engage with the caller. As a general precaution, end the call immediately. Scammers could record your voice and use AI tools to imitate it.
  • Do not share personal or banking information. BSP will never ask for your password, PIN, one-time passcode or full card details.
  • Do not click on links sent by the caller or account.
  • Block and report the account through the platform.
  • Contact BSP at [email protected] to report the incident.

If you have already shared banking information or suspect your account has been compromised, contact BSP immediately.
