Targeted financial sanctions

Understand your obligations. Check the current sanctions lists.

Overview

Targeted financial sanctions protect the financial system.

The Cook Islands is committed to preventing its people, businesses and financial system from being used to support terrorism or the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Targeted financial sanctions restrict dealing with designated persons and entities. Under the Cook Islands framework, a designation may freeze assets and make it a criminal offence to deal with property, provide financial services, or otherwise support a designated entity.

Why this matters

Sanctions screening is more than a name check.

Names may be recorded with aliases, alternative spellings and incomplete identifiers. Review the full UN entry and the relevant sanctions regime before deciding whether a potential match is genuine.

Use live official sources

Sanctions lists can change. Use the current UN webpages below rather than relying on an old downloaded spreadsheet or a saved copy of the list.

Current UN resources

Use the official consolidated list and search tool.

The UN Security Council Consolidated List brings together individuals and entities subject to Security Council measures. Each entry remains linked to the specific sanctions regime that governs it.
